The Bylaws Panel was convened by the HWFC Board on June 7, 2016, and charged with creating language to correct errors and to clarify and strengthen the decision authority and role of Member-Owners in HWFC. Current members of the Bylaws Panel are: Rebekah Rice and Saul Rigberg representing the Board, Richard Desir and Stacy Onorata representing the Membership, Tom Spargo and Sue Lohmiller representing the Management, and Judith Brink and Ursula Abrams representing the GRC. We began meeting in July, and have been meeting weekly during August and September.
Our review has resulted in a large number of minor changes in language, with no reduction in the powerful decision authority that rests with our Member-Owners. Member-Owners have the opportunity to review our recommendations by going to the HWFC website page for our Bylaws http://www.honestweight.coop/page/bylaws-15.html. Our Bylaws and proposed changes are password protected, so if you don’t have the password contact the Member-Owner Coordinator, Janet Sorell (memberservices AT honestweight.coop). You can also pick up a copy of the proposed changes at the Service Desk beginning on September 22.
We will shortly publicize a series of dates and times for Question and Answer Sessions at which you may ask panel members about anything we have put into our recommendations. Up until September 30 we may incorporate changes you recommend, however ultimately the Bylaws Panel must do as they agree is best. Q. and A. Sessions will continue until the October 23 Membership Meeting so that your questions may be answered prior to the meeting.
The Membership Meeting itself will not be a good opportunity to express your concerns other than through your votes, as there is quite a lot on the agenda! If you want to learn more about the proposed Bylaws changes, please attend one of the upcoming bylaws panel information sessions.
